CV in pdf format.The myth that surrounds rising damp continues. Mike Parrett has not found a true case of rising damp due to the failure of an existing physical damp proof course in walls. His pioneering work was featured on the hard-hitting BBC2 television series Raising the Roof. He won the Institute of Maintenance and Building Management British Building awards in 1997. His work is now accepted as established practice in a co-authored new book Diagnosing Damp published by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS books, April 2003). Mike
is the Repair and Development Manager of the London Borough of Lewisham's
Property Investigation Unit. The work of the unit is to defend legal
actions for Statutory Nuisance and Disrepair brought against the Authority.
Mike’s work in proving the rarity of rising
damp due to a failure of the physical damp proof course is saving the
Council £160,000 per year, with available resources being
redirected to preventative maintenance and addressing the real causes
of damp, according to former Mayor Cllr Dave Sullivan.
